Rockfest: Hawaii’s Music Festival!

Cochella, a large California music festival, featured a hologram of 2pac performing…we make no such promises about Rockfest.

Looking for something cool to do tonight that’s off the beaten path? Why not check out Art After Dark at the Honolulu Museum of Art?

Art After Dark happens every last Friday of the month, but tonight’s event is especially interesting. Anyone familiar with the music scene on the mainland has probably heard of Cochella, EDC, Burning Man, and all the other giant outdoor music festivals that have become popular once again.

Tonight’s Art After Dark event is called Rockfest, and will feature live music, food, drinks, and art galleries that are inspired by music. Parking is available at the ProPark lot behind the Art center on Linekona. Hope to see you there!

Lantern Floating Hawaii

Memorial Day 2012 is on 5/28, and every year

From the lantern floating website:

Every year on Memorial Day, tens-of-thousands of people gather on Oʻahu’s south shore joined by many from around the world via live streaming and telecast to honor those who have sacrificed their lives in war, for loved ones who have passed away and to generate hope toward a harmonious and peaceful future.

I personally have never been, but have seen the live broadcasts before. It’s a great event with a lot of positive energy. One of the few times that race, religion, and everything else melt away and we all hope for a better future.

The event offers free parking at the Hawaii Convention Center, but if you want to run away from the crowds, check out one of our nearby locations.

Nearby locations to park:
First Hawaiian Bank
Marina Parking Garage
1227 Kona St.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Normally when we update the events on this site, we check a couple of sites to find out the happenings around town. We check twitter, Facebook, Nonstop Honolulu, The Honolulu Star Advertiser, etc. When I checked for this weekend, I found nothing.

Then, after I posted up on Facebook that nothing was happening this weekend, my buddy called me from LA and reminded me that this weekend is MOTHER’S DAY, and that’s probably why there are no “party events” planned.

Flowers
If you’ve lived in Honolulu for any reasonable period of time, you know that Chinatown is where to get nice flowers on the cheap. Maunakea street is especially awesome for picking up flowers. Parking around the area is easy with ProPark. We have locations at Chinatown Gateway Plaza, 1032 Macy’s, Aloha Tower, TOPA, Kukui Plaza, and Smith – Beretania, all within walking distance of Chinatown. Mom will love you for it.

Dinner
After you give Mom her flowers, why not take her out to eat? Downtown has a few great places: Restaurant Epic, DuVinn, and Little Village come to mind off the top of our heads (Parking is available at the same places you parked for flowers for downtown). You can also hit Waikiki for Roy’s, Wolfgang, Morimoto’s, Nobu, or Le Mer (if you’re feeling “baller”, just don’t forget your jacket). If you’re waikiki-bound, check out Island Colony, Waikiki Parking Garage, Miramar, Waikiki Sunset, The Marina Parking Garage and more!

Take the time to tell your mom “Thank you” for making you the person you are today. Moms of Hawaii. THANK YOU!

CINCO DE MAYO 2012

So, you didn’t get enough of that good old fashion partying at First Friday, don’t fret my friend. The celebration continues at Honolulu’s Cinco de Mayo Hispanic Celebration on Saturday, May 5, 2012 (Hard to forget that date, right?), right in the heart of Honolulu at the intersection of Hotel Street and Nuuanu Avenue)

Head over to Downtown Honolulu for a diverse presentation of Latino culture here in Hawaii. Cultural festivities will include music, dance, cuisine and the arts. The celebration starts at 6:00 p.m. and continues on until 10:00 p.m.

Parking available at Marks Garage, Chinatown Gateway, Kukui Plaza, Smith & Beretania, Beretania-Nu’uanuMacy’sTOPA, or Aloha Tower.

FIRST FRIDAY IS THE PLACE THE BE

For you hipsters young and old, you all know where the place to be every first Friday of the month is, hence the chic name for a monthly celebration of nightlife and the arts, First Friday.

Come and witness the rebirth of a very hip and cultural experience which includes art galleries such as The ARTS at Marks Garage, Louis Pohl Gallery, and many more. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. you can submerge yourself in culture and music.

Top the night off with a few drinks with a few close friends at venues such as SoHo Mixed Media Bar, Bar 35 and the legendary Indigo.

Parking available at Marks Garage, Chinatown Gateway, Kukui Plaza, Smith & Beretania, Beretania-Nu’uanuMacy’sTOPA, or Aloha Tower.

Spam Jam 2012!

You can’t get more local than Spam Jam 2012.

Hawaii has a special relationship with Spam (we eat more than 7 million cans of the stuff per year), and that’s not ever more apparent than during Spam Jam, an annual event that celebrates Hawaii’s love with the polarizing canned meat.

Come down to Waikiki to check the event out on Saturday, April 28 from 4pm – 10pm. Street closures will be from Seaside to Kaiulani, so if you’re looking for parking, Waikiki Parking Garage is probably your best bet.

If you’ve never had spam before, or you are skeptical, you really should check it out. It’s a good way to check out the local culture.
